Caribana 2016 has been deemed a resounding success not only by organizers but by patrons as well.
Minister of Barbuda Affairs The Hon Arthur Nibbs stated that the involvement of persons from mainland Antigua as well as residents on the sister isle made the event bigger and better than previous years.
The Minister disclosed that he was pleased with how well the new additions to the festival added to Caribana and noted that the Prime Minister’s Aquatic Day would now become a fixture due to its success.
The Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission headed by Mr Maurice Merchant were also brought in for high praise for their assistance to the Caribana Committee which made the planning and execution even smoother.
Nibbs also disclosed that cash flow issues did not plague this year’s staging of Caribana which added to the success.
In Barbuda’s Talented Teen Pageant, D’jamel Charles emerged as the winner receiving a cash prize of 2,000.
In the Soca Monarch, Iki John was proclaimed the winner taking home 5,000, 1st runner up went to Versatile and 2015’s winner Governor copped the 2nd runner up.
The Calypso Monarch saw first timer Cinnamon taking the top prize of a whopping 10,000 dollars. 1st runner up went to Spice the sister of Cinnamon, and once again 2015’s top dog Singing Julie went home with 3rd place.
