
Minister of Health and the Environment the Hon. Molwyn Joseph says major security measures will be put in place to ensure that after July 1st plastic bags will not be brought into the country.
Minister Joseph was speaking during a Press Conference at the Ministry of Health on Tuesday. He said that the required security will be present at Port of entries to ensure that plastic bags within the country will be a thing of the past.
In 2015 the Government announced that a ban will be implemented on the importation of plastic bags come January 1st 2016. Six months later on July 1st a ban on the use of plastic bags will be introduced, other than those used to collect garbage.
The distribution of reusable biodegradable bags have also begun with a launch initiative beginning this Friday which will see several of the major supermarkets receiving the reusable bags.
