A British visitor has been convicted and fined for battery and for maliciously damaging a taxi man’s vehicle.
48 year old Darren Roach who is staying in Jolly Harbour pleaded guilty to the charges after appearing before Magistrate Ngaio Emmanuel.
Roach was reportedly outside the Epicurean Supermarket in Jolly Harbour when an altercation ensued between himself and taxi driver Rae Peters. Peters was reportedly punched in the face during the dispute.
He reportedly left to report the matter to the Police and later returned where another altercation ensued between the two men. This time, Roach reportedly throwed stones and bottles at Peter’s Toyota Noah vehicle, damaging the tail light and causing a number of dents to the back door of the van.
The UK resident admitted to the offence and was ordered to pay $500 forthwith or jailed for 10 days. He was further fined $1,000 as compensation to the driver or serve six weeks in prison.
Meantime, Peter’s is set to stand trial on August 22nd to answer to charges of being armed with an offensive weapon, using indecent language and threatening language. He pleaded not guilty to the offences.
