Jamaican National remanded to Prison

Dwayne Omar Swaby of Mandeville, Jamaica has been remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison after he appeared before the Magistrates court today Wednesday to answer to drug charges.

The 37yrs-old was nabbed with 18 Lbs of compressed Cannabis hidden inside several tins of Cheese and fruit juices at the V.C. Bird International Airport on Monday night

According to a Stractom release, Narcotics Police and Customs Officers were on duty at the airport and conducted a search on a blue suitcase the Mandeville resident had in his possession.

The officers discovered six cans of “Tastee” Cheddar Cheese along with four cans of various fruit juices, ‘factory sealed’ with compressed Cannabis inside them.

The drugs were seized and taken to the police station. Swaby was arrested and taken into custody and is facing charges of Importation of Cannabis; Possession of Cannabis; Possession with intent to supply and Drugs Trafficking.

He arrived on the island aboard Caribbean Airline Flight #459 from Jamaica. The drugs carry an estimated street value of $72,000. The Jamaican National was remanded to prison until his trial date in November.
