Police investigated possible drowning of AUA student

Investigations are on going into the possible drowning of a medical student at the America University of Antigua (AUA) after his lifeless body was discovered at Dickenson Bay early Sunday morning.

It is alleged that a US medical student who was identified as Mudhafer Dhaher and his fiancé went to Dickenson Bay late Saturday evening for a swim. It is further alleged that the man went into the water, while his female companion remained ashore.

Reports are that within a short space of time the man disappeared in the water, prompting his fiancé to call the police.

Divers of the Antigua and Barbuda Coast Guard were called in to assist the police in their search, however because of the poor lighting conditions the search had to be called off.

Early Sunday morning the Police and the Coast Guard resumed their search, and around 5:40 am, his lifeless body was found washed ashore on Dickenson Bay, in the vicinity of Grande Sandals Resort Antigua.

The police said that there is nothing to suggest foul play; however further investigations are currently ongoing into the matter.

The student is said to have last resided at Hodges Bay.
