Chinese Nationals remanded to prison for Visa Fraud

The two Chinese nationals who were intercepted at the V.C Bird International Airport carrying false Visas have been remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.

43 year old Jianming Chen and Qianqian Chen, 22 appeared before Magistrate Conliffe Clarke in the St John’s Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday, and were remanded until Monday.

The two men pleaded not guilty to two separate charges of carrying a Chinese passport containing a forged Canadian visa, and fraud. They are expected to reappear in court on October 10 before Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel in the All Saints Magistrates’ Court.

The incident occurred on Saturday after airline authorities became suspicious of the forged documents. Following confirmation from the airline agency abroad, the men were intercepted and were taken into police custody.

The men are said to have arrived in Antigua on September 13th, and have been in the country since. It is still undetermined whether or not the men were staying with friends.
