Sunnyside Tutorial School Wins 2016 Inet Rotaract Spelling Bee

Caden Phillip, a fifth-grader at the Sunnyside Tutorial, has emerged victorious in the 10th Annual Inet-Rotaract Spelling Bee competition.

Caden overcame four other students in nearly two hours and equal rounds of intense competition at the Precision Center last Saturday.

He took home a laptop computer, with travel bag and mouse, and printer with ink refills, one year of complimentary Internet service courtesy Inet, ECAB Junior Savings account credited with EC$1,500 along with an assortment of vitamins courtesy of Seven Seas, 3 months free enrollment into the Swalings Antigua’s swimming and football programs, Football kit from Cool and Smooth in addition Gift voucher valued at $300 courtesy Stephen B. Shoul, and 1st Place Trophy.

Finishing second was Maia Jarvis from St. John’s Catholic Primary who was awarded an Apple Ipad, 6 months complimentary internet service courtesy of Inet, Scotia Bank Junior Savings account credited with EC$1,000, An assortment of vitamins courtesy of Seven Seas, also 3 months free enrollment into the Swalings Antigua’s swimming and football programs, Football kit from Cool and Smooth, Gift voucher valued at $200 courtesy Stephen B. Shoul, and 2nd Place Trophy.

Jireh George from Holy Trinity Primary finished third receiving EC$500 worth of school supplies, 3 months complimentary internet service courtesy of Inet, Scotia Bank Junior Savings account credited with EC$500 credited, An assortment of vitamins courtesy of Seven Seas, 3 months free enrollment into the Swalings Antigua’s swimming and football programs , Football kit from Cool and Smooth, Gift voucher valued at $100 courtesy Stephen B. Shoul, and a 3rdPlace Trophy.

Melika Chedaree from T.O.R Memorial and D’Aundre Samuel from Grace Christian Academy tied in fourth place.

This year’s Rotaract Spelling Bee featured students from over 21 private and public schools from across the country including Barbuda.

The winning school – Sunnyside Tutorial will also benefit from a school enhancement initiative valued at EC $3,000.00.

Members of the Rotaract Club will perform the enhancement operation during the club’s 30th Charter Anniversary Week.  All participants also received a free goody bag with school supplies at the end of the overall competition.
