The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority partnered with the Women Divers Hall of Fame (WDHOF) to promote Antigua and Barbuda as a leading diving destination at the Tropical Dreams & Paradise Sunsets Fundraising Auction.
The annual fundraising event is a kick-off to the world’s leading dive show, Diving Equipment and Marketing Association Expo (DEMA), where more than 10,000 industry leaders from the globe gather to network and do business.
The event this year was held in Las Vegas, Nevada, on November 16, where over $25,000 was raised for student scholarships.
Working with the fundraising chairperson for the event, Antiguan Martha Watkins Gilkes, the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority highlighted the destination throughout the evening to the key decision makers and players in the diving industry, giving significant exposure to Antigua and Barbuda as a destination, particularly to its merits for those focused on diving.
The island party is a major fundraiser for the Women Divers Hall of Fame causes which include scholarships and training grants that offer financial and/or educational assistance to individuals of all ages, particularly those who are preparing for professional careers that involve scuba diving. Gilkes said, “We encourage the students of Antigua & Barbuda that are studying for careers in Marine Biology to Ocean Conservation and all careers that involve scuba diving to apply for these scholarships, a minimum of 22 scholarships are awarded students in these fields around the world.”
