Pensioners will receive benefits if they retire at age 60 this year

Pensioners at the age of 60 who choose to retire this year will be entitled to receive their benefits says the Social Security Board despite the planned adjustment in the retirement age come February 1st.

This is according to Director of the Board David Mathias who said that if persons do decide to retire this year whether 60 or 61, they will be able to receive their Social Security pension.

He said that if pensioners have already attained the age of 60 years, depending on both the employer and the employee, they have the option to continue to work for another year.

As of February 1st 2017 residents will begin to see 2 percentage points added to current contribution levels of Social Security and an increase in the Retirement age which will gradually increase every two year until it reaches the age of 65 in 2025.
