Two men lost their lives on Sunday after the vehicle they were travelling in burst into flames, shortly after running into a bar on Old Parham Road.
Reports are that the Motor Car license# A46833, driven by 45yrs-old Carl “Muslim” Constant of Pares Village was travelling from West to East, when he apparently lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle collided into a wire fence on the Southern side of the road, causing it to flip and landed on its roof.
Police reports further details that the vehicle came into contact with a live electrical wire, which caused it to ignite and burst into flames. Constant along with passenger Cordel Graham, who had recently arrived in Antigua, were unable to escape and perished in the blaze. The fire also caused damage to a 22×48 wooden structure on Old Parham Road.
ZDK News understands that shortly after Fire fighters from St. Johns Fire Station arrived on the scene to put out the blaze and the “Jaws of Life” had to be used to remove both bodies from the wreck.
Both men were pronounced dead on the spot by the district doctor Dr. Christian at 3:35am. No other injuries were reported coming out of the incident.
The incident occurred at about 2:30 am. The death of both men is the first road fatalities in the country for 2017.
