President of the Antigua Trades and Labour Union Wigley George has been appointed by the Prime Minister as an Ambassador to the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
ILO is a U.N. agency, which brings together governments, employers and workers representatives of 187 member States, to set labor standards, develop policies and devise programmes promoting decent work for all women and men.
The appointment took effect on the 1st of February 2017. George replaces Sir Keithlyn Smith Former General Secretary of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union.
According to Tourism Minister Asot Michael, Ambassador George brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position. Minister Michael who was speaking during the Government’s Post-Cabinet briefing on Thursday, further congratulated Ambassador George on his new appointment.
