Government Pushes For Visa Waiver to China

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda is seeking to build an even stronger relation with the Republic of China by pursuing a visa waiver agreement with the Asian giant.

Chief of Staff to the Government Lionel Hurst in this week’s cabinet notes said the vast number of residents travelling to and from both countries is the reason behind this move.

He said that more than 150 students of Antigua and Barbuda nationality now live and study in China; and more than 200 Chinese nationals now make Antigua and Barbuda their home. A large number of CIP citizens also come from this Asian state, and others are being encouraged to examine Antigua and Barbuda for investment purposes.

According to Hurst, this would ease travel between the Asian giant and Antigua and Barbuda. Cabinet Officials are currently discussing the specifics of this development during the Government’s post-cabinet briefing.

Information Minister Melford Nicholas said the government wanted Antigua and Barbuda to benefit from a move being undertaken by other Caribbean countries such as Barbados.
