AIDS Secretariat cautions revelers against the rampant spread of HIV during Carnival Season

Revelers are advised to be extremely cautious and responsible during the Carnival festivities as the spread of HIV is extremely prevalent during this season.

This is according to AIDS program Manager Delcora Williams who indicated that over the years the number of baby deliveries recorded 9 month after the Carnival period has been alarming.

She said that this speaks to the amount of unprotected sex that is often carried out during this period. As such, Williams is advising individuals to be on guard and be responsible when consuming alcohol.

Williams who was speaking on ZDK’s Open Forum also pointed out that the youths are not the main focus at present but rather the older individuals. According to the program manager, there has been an increase in HIV among persons over the age of 40.
