The Police are calling upon the general public, especially residents within the Villa Community, who may have information surrounding the shooting death of 31yr-old Babu Jardine of Villa, to come forward and assist them further in their investigations.
On Tuesday around 9:48pm, police responded to a 911 Emergency call of a male body, which was seen lying in some bushes off Dyett Street in Villa. Police say that on arrival at the scene, they met the lifeless body of Jardine dressed only in a multi-coloured boxer shorts, with what appeared to be a bullet wound to his abdomen. His body was pronounced dead on the spot around 11:36pm by a medical doctor.
Jardine was recently placed on bail for a number of offences; to include Unlawful Wounding, Threatening Language, Disorderly Conduct, and Trespassing.
Further investigations are currently ongoing into the matter.
In light of this recent shooting incident, police are making a further appeal for members of the public to take full advantage of the Gun Amnesty, and come forward with useful information that can lead towards confiscating illegal firearms and ammunition from off the streets.
The government announced the current gun amnesty to give persons the opportunity to rid themselves of illegal firearms before the Firearms Amendment Act officially becomes the law of the land.
The new law, which is expected to come into effect by the end of the amnesty on November 15, makes it mandatory for the magistrate to sentence anyone convicted of a gun-related offense to serve up to two years in prison.
The police are reassuring the public that information provided will be handled confidentially.
